Frequently asked questions - feel free to contact us if you have any other questions!
Q. How long is each lesson and how much does it cost?
A. We have put together a targeted 'introduction to fly fishing' lesson which runs for 3 hours and covers many of the different aspects of fly fishing to get started. This suits people who have limited time and want a beautiful place to learn that is close to Melbourne . The cost is as follows:
- 1 person - $255 per 3 hour lesson
- 2 people - $350 per 3 hour lesson ($175 per person)
- 3 people - $420 for 3 hour lesson ($140 per person)
- 4 people - $450 for 3 hour lesson ($112.50 per person)
If participants are getting really enthusiastic and relaxed by the end of the lesson and want to keep fly fishing, this will be charged at $85/hour for one person plus $10/hour for each additional person.
Each participant will receive a manual which has been developed by Warburton Fly Fishing and will be referred to during the lesson and become a vital resource to assist them on their fly fishing journey.
If you know someone who keeps talking about learning to fly fish but never does it, why not consider purchasing a customised gift voucher from Warburton Fly Fishing. A gift voucher could be a gift that really makes a difference in that special person's life. Give that special person a gift that promotes relaxation, mindfulness and better health.
Q. Do you also do guiding on the Yarra River?
Yes, we love exploring the river with guests who want to enjoy the scenery, catch fish and learn as they go. We really listen to what people want and tailor experiences to exactly what people desire and are trying to achieve. Warburton has many beautiful spots, just like a great golf course. We put clients onto the best water and offer the best advice.
Some people have been fishing a while and have got into a rut with little success. Some things are caught and taught! We can walk people through the basics and add in tips, techniques and refinements that lead to success.
We can also introduce new comers and long time fly fishers to 'Czech Nymphing' - a really effective way to fly fish that is lots of fun, really effective and relaxing.
Q. What do I need to bring?
A. You do not need to bring anything in terms of fly fishing gear, however, you will need to bring the following:
- A cap and sunglasses, preferably polarized.
- A shirt, pants and running shoes with provision extra layers in case it gets cold. If it's warm and you don't want to wear waders you can bring shorts but you will need a pair of shoes you can walk in the river with.
- A bottle of water and a small snack.
- Sunscreen will be provided but we recommend you apply sunscreen before arriving for your protection.
Q. Do I need to arrive a little earlier than the lesson time for anything?
A. Yes, you need to arrive 20 minutes earlier to fill out necessary paperwork.
Q. What is the payment method?
A. Cash on the day or EFT in advance is OK, a tax invoice will be issued if required.
Q. Do you sell rods of complete outfits?
A. No, Warburton Fly Fishing does not sell rods or complete outfits, we support local business according to the 'back to village' principle. We recommend purchasing gear from Russell at Lilydale Lakes Tackle Shop, a long standing store with a great range. There is little benefit purchasing from Ebay as there is little price difference (if any) and you don't get the advice you could get from someone who has decades of experience. Lilydale Lakes Tackle Shop is also on the way to some of the best fishing in Victoria so you can pick up some flies and tackle on the way to your adventure.
Lilydale Lakes Fishing Tackle is located at 3 Castella St in Lilydale and Russell has years of knowledge on fly fishing. Call Russell on (03) 9735 3987.

You may also rediscover how to live in the moment, get realigned, rewired and get a new perspective on life. We advise in advance that the side effects of fly fishing are greater happiness, well being and longer life just to name a few. The side effects of fly fishing are magnified in beautiful places such as Warburton. To be taken liberally.
